Dimensional Imaging DI3D™

Transfer and detail enhancement

FACS data

We use Dimensional Imaging’s DI3D™ 3D capture systems to capture accurate, high resolution, full-colour 3D models of the human face and body.

Dimensional Imaging’s world-leading DI3D™ passive stereophotogrammetry technology allows extremely dense 3D models to be recovered from standard digital still camera images. It does not require any pattern projection (structured light or active stereo photogrammetry) on to the scene, or any form of laser scanning.

The process of capturing models is as quick and simple as taking an ordinary photo. One or more stereo pairs of images of the human subject are captured simultaneously using an array of pre-calibrated digital still cameras.

We can work with any 3D meshes to cross-transfer scanned data. Using applications such as ZBrush 3.5 DI3Dview, it is now a simple task to bake information from one mesh to another in a matter of minutes, with minimal cleanup time.

All additional details such as eyes, teeth and eyelashes are hand-crafted to the finest level of detail using high-resolution photographic references acquired on set. (images)

We always provide a FACS (Facial Action Coding System) capture session, recording over 100 facial expressions. FACS is a system for categorising the human facial expressions used to convey emotions. Capturing FACS data gives us the information we need to bring the character to life later on.
